March Monthly Meeting Minutes: 3-8-11
Treasurer reported the month's income and expenses. Review of minutes from last meeting. Club shirts, hats and logos have been restocked. Still working decals. The club voted/approved purchase of: two additional 12 x 12 canopies for use in SAC events, trophies, SAC seal stamp and deposit stamp and gas and welding wire for welding washers to our 3D stakes to keep them above ground. The Feruary 3D tournament went well. Archery for Kids Day was a great success. Reviewed what we can do better and where improvement is warranted. Elimiate the Novelty shoot. Expand the warm-up. Add additional style event as a Triple Crown. Implement some kind of arrow back stop. Improve registration. Plan 1 scoring time through the series of events (turn-in colored score card) and then allow 1 additional time (white score sheet) through each event only or maybe use hand stamps. This allows for a timely wrap-up. Add signage to concessions to ease the cost and run game which puts a strain on concessions flow. We need to get more MiniGenesis bows and more volunteers would help (but what can be done there?). We'd like to plan another Archery for Kids Day in late May or June when school is getting out for the summer. Bobby Flores checked with local school district to find out what SAC can do to foster NASP participation in the schools. Schools participating in NASP get the NASP gear at no cost. Some schools have it and aren't using it. Club members can run the schools NASP as long as a school teacher acts as coach in competitions and certifies through an instructing course as an NASP coach. The practices can be conducted by multple schools togather and rotate locations. Some members expressed an interest offering their service in a local school to foster the NASP programs. SAC has been invited to conduct a tournament shoot as part of the Palmetto Sportsman Festival in Lake City tenatively for the 3rd weekend in September. The event draws a large crowd. We'd need to rent a U-Haul truck to take the gear. It'd be a big event and would be great for the club. A vote at the meeting was taken and SAC will conduct this event tournament. Bobby Flores is submitting the club for a non-profit grant by International Paper. SAC plans to purchase two NASP kits for SAC should we get the grant. That would give us the gear we need to host future shoots for the kids. We will need to add money along with the grant to buy two kits. A member suggested pursuing use of a recycling center building that has been vacated for the last two years as a site to conduct an indoor Archery Tournament. We'll be investigating permission and access to the building. A club member suggested conducting a Boy Scouts shoot similar to the Archery for Kids Day event. The club is open to the idea. |

February Monthly Meeting Minutes: 2-8-11
Treasurer reported the month's income and expenses. Review of minutes from last meeting. This year's Sandune 500 will be replaced by the SAC Championship games. Details are already posted on the web site. It will use a handicap system to give all levels of participants the ability to compete. At least two tournaments must be shot to generate the individual's handicap. The Lower State 3D Championship went well. Cudos to Caitlin and Haley Dixon for their registration work. Scoreboard cudos to Mike Williams. The scoreboard was a big hit with the competitors. At the upcoming February 26-27 3D shoot we need to make sure we try and give out past trophies. We'll post a list at the registration and may post to web site as well. On Range setup days we will be closing the range while setup is going on. This is for safety and also as a courtesy to those club members laboring for the club. Upcoming shoot to start 8:30. Casual 30 target 3D. Jane Pennell suggested a Toughman for Pee Wee and Cubs. 5 yd target. 3 shots for $1... bust a ballon and get a gift (candy bar, etc.). 4:30 PM setup range day on Friday prior to the shoot. Need workday to resurface the 10, 20, and 30 yd targets. Need to get propane tank filled for concessions. Cudos to volunteers for the Horry County Schools and DNR Hosting Archery in Schools Tournament on February 5th. We had a great turnout of volunteers supporting the tournament. Next time we need to wear gear with logos on back so the spectators can identify/associate the volunteers to SAC. Need to take a 3D target so the kids can see what a 3D target is. President, Bobby Flores, has proposed we follow-up the NASP shoot with a SAC sponsored shoot in the NASP atmosphere but as a kid's day shoot on March 5th. This would be a pre-registration type event and will be open to all kids as opposed to only NASP. Some schools don't have NASP and this may give exposure to those kids. The idea includes a mini-3D & shoot line practice & top kid per school shoot. Have a target line for adults. $5.00 per kid and parents can shoot free. Dan suggested including Parks and Recreation as they can be very helpful. Members expressed concern on lack of adequate planning time to properly organize the event, concern on NASP reference but not strick to NASP rules, equipment concerns in borrowing genesis bows from the schools. NASP State championship is in late March. Bobby wanted to do before then so they could use the event in preparing the kids for tournaments. Bobby will check into school equipment availability and interest through the schools and provide feedback. The club needs to replenish stock of decals, t-shirts, etc... do we want to order more? Dan Grinalds will be taking action to check with a local vendor in Surfside and the previous Miami-based vendor is also a possibility. We are low on t-shirts. Need to buy more gear. A club member asked if crossbow's be shot in competition. Bobby is going to be looking at current NFAA guidelines. This probably is no issue. A concern was expressed that crossbow-fired arrows tend to damage foam 3D targets. A member brought gear for posting in kicking off the Sell/Trade page on the web site. Kudos to Kim Williams for the awesome snacks and drinks provided for the meeting. She is spoiling us well! |

The Sandune 500 will be replaced by the SAC Championship Games: 1-17-11
There will be a new tournament in September replacing the Sandune 500. The change is in the spirit of fun. We will have two different paper target shoots and a 3D shoot in the tournament. To place in the tournament you must have also shot two previous club tournaments this year. A handicap will be compiled from your previous shoots and used in the tournament. If you didn't shoot the qualifying 2 previous tournaments you are still welcome to shoot. You just won't qualify for an award. Click here to read all about the SAC Championship Games tournament. |

Horry County Schools and DNR Hosting Archery in Schools Tournament: Updated 1-14-11 The Horry County Schools and the DNR are hosting the first ever Archery in Schools tournament. They have asked for our help. The shoot will be held on Saturday, February 5th at Burgess Elementary School gym. It will run for about 6-7 hours or so. They are allowing us to have table there to promote the club. Remember the youth of today are the future of archery and the club. They are asking us to Help them by providing some bodies for things like scoring, equipment help, sign in and other little duties. Nothing major, just so they can run a smooth tournament and have a positive influence on the program. Across the country, this program has thousands and thousands of kids learning and shooting in the sport. It has been a positive thing in every state it’s in. Gets the kids off the electronic games and out doing something. It has grown archery clubs and shops, all over the country. I sincerely hope that Sandune can and will step up and provide some Help for this one day. You don’t need to be there all day, a couple of hours from a few will make it work. II think we all could spare some time for the youth in our area. Let’s show up, show our pride and support in archery, and Sandune. We can recruit a few new members hopefully and get some new blood and ideas in the club. I have been asked to be the go between for the club and the event, I am proud to do this, and ask your support in making it work out. Contact me if you can Help. |

The club has received its current insurance paperwork. The club secretary will file that away. The club income tax prepartion will be performed in January or February. The South Carolina Archers Association Handbook is available at a cost of $2.00 each. Kim Williams has filled the Social Director vacancy. Thanks Kim! We are incouraged to start collecting small items to be raffled at this year's club Christmas party. The club Christmas party this year will be held on December 3rd, 2011 at the same location as last year. Their are trophies yet to be provided to the recipients. We'll maintain a list and hand them out if the recipients show at our shoots. Apologies to the recipients that have not received their awards. The Horry County Schools and DNR Hosting Archery in Schools Tournament on February 5th will be held indoors at Burgess elementary School. Beth and Joan will attending a meeting about the tournament for the club. Volunteers are needed for scorekeepering and registration. Those who are going to volunteer should provide their t-shirt sizes and will have them a club t-shirt for the event. The Lower State 3D tournament is at our range on Jan 29-30. Range setup has been moved to 4:30 PM on Jan 28. State participants will use a green form and guests will use a white form. There is a 280 MPH speed limit with a 3% variance on the shoot. State shooters must fire through the chronograph before shooting the event. Participants above the speed limit must fire through the chronograph again after the event and if the speed is still above the limit their scores will be disqualified. Guests must yeild to state championships shooters in the tournament. It will be a shotgun start at 9 and 12. All participants must fill out and sign the insurance waiver form. The club will retain the insurance waivers. State shooters must pay the one-time annual Championship fee (covering all the 3D state champiuonships). The state fee is $25 for non-club members and $15 dollars for club members. Their is now a regional Championship. To qualify for regional placement the archer must participiate in at least one tournament at each club in the region. For Sandune that's Swampfox, Wateree and ours. The highest score from each site will be used if shooters participate in multiple regional club shoots. Shooters must shoot the same class at all events and can only shoot one class. We will be changing the locks on the storage trailer at the range. This year's Sandune 500 will use a handicap system to give all levels of participants the ability to compete. At least two tournaments must be shot to generate the individual's handicap. Club fees may change next year to help manage dues. The change will be: Renewal before Jan 1 = $25, After Jan 1st, Jan - Dec = $35, Jul - Dec = $15. Renewal will be due before Jan 1st or the full rate amount will be expected. |

SALE and/or TRADE
Do you have any used archery equipment or bows that you would like to sell or donate to the club, let us know. With new members and people wanting to give archery a try it would be nice if they could start out with some equipment that would be cost effective to them. HELP US!!!
Please help us to keep our range and practice area clean. We have trash cans in the area. If you bring targets to shoot, take them with you, pick up shredded pieces and put it in the trash can. Cardboard or paper targets don't need to be left out to litter the practice range as they become wet and start to come to pieces and cigarette butts should NOT be thrown on the ground. Lets take pride and care of our range. |
